Blu-ray Making Faster Inroads Than Dvd

Consumers are buying Blu-ray Disc players at a rate faster than they did conventional DVD players when they first appeared nine years ago, according to a new study. UK-based Futuresource Consulting estimated that Western European consumers are grabbing up Blu-ray players at more than six times the rate that they bought DVD players in 1999. Video Business magazine quoted Futuresource exec Jim Bottoms as saying, "As player prices continue to fall, title availability grows and awareness increases, Blu-ray Disc players will become the product of choice, given the fact that they also play DVD and CD media." Other analysts, however, have previously questioned the longterm viability of the high-definition players, noting that most of those sold are in fact Sony PlayStation 3 consoles and that many consumers have expressed an unwillingness to pay a significant premium for Blu-ray discs.

Divorce between Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe clears final hurdle

LOS ANGELES - Reese Witherspoon has sealed another deal: her divorce from fellow actor Ryan Phillippe.

Documents filed Thursday in Los Angeles show the pair have resolved the remaining issues of their split. Exact details weren't filed, though the pair had indicated they wanted joint custody of their children, ages eight and four. They opted for an uncontested divorce, which kept many of its particulars private.

Witherspoon cited "irreconcilable differences" when she filed for divorce in November 2006 after seven years of marriage.

The "Legally Blonde" actress won the best-actress Academy Award in 2006 for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in "Walk the Line."

Phillippe, who appeared in "Igby Goes Down" and "Crash," most recently starred in "Stop-Loss."

Publicists for both actors didn't immediately return calls from The Associated Press on Friday.

The Time settling in for Las Vegas shows

R&B/funk group playing through Aug. 2





After reuniting for the first time in 15 years for the 50th Grammy awards in February, R&B/funk group the Time has announced additional concert performances at the Flamingo Las Vegas, beginning June 24 and wrapping Aug. 2.
All original members of the Time -- Morris Day, Jerome Benton, Jellybean Johnson, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Monte Moir and Jesse Johnson -- are slated for 15 shows at the Flamingo. Tickets are available via Harrahs.com, with prices ranging between $65 and $125.
During the band's Grammy performance, Jimmy Jam introduced his fellow bandmates and group opened with "Jungle Love," switching over midsong to a slightly down-tempo, pyrotechnic laden version of "Umbrella" by Rihanna, who then continued with "Don't Stop the Music."
In April, Day joined Prince onstage at the ninth annual Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif., for a collaboration on "Jungle Love."

Frat's pick up tasty support act

WHEN I end up smashed in a kebab shop I come out with chips. But THE FRATELLIS
left their local one with the support act for their album launch.

The Scots trio plucked the resident guitarist from kebab joint Marathon in
Camden, North London.

The lucky musician — known as Dan The Marathon Man — then found himself
playing at Camden venue Dingwalls as he opened for the trio.

The Glaswegians played eight songs from their forthcoming album Here We Stand
during the intimate gig.

The new material — including Heady Tale, Shameless and new single Mistress
Mabel — were all well received.



I predict the album will be a big hit when it’s released on June 9.

But the biggest cheer of the night was saved for their last song — hit Chelsea
Dagger. It has become a live classic.

It was like being at Stamford Bridge, Parkhead or any other ground which has
robbed it as the song to mark a goal.
